The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) on Wednesday advanced its nationwide empowerment campaign marking the 2025 World Disability Day with the distribution of financial support to persons with disabilities in Delta State.
The event, which was held at the Delta First Lady’s Office Premises, Government House, Asaba, was part of a coordinated national outreach taking place across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
Delivering the national address, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to promoting dignity, economic inclusion, and equal opportunity for Nigerians living with disabilities. She noted that the empowerment programme was carefully designed to provide sustainable support rather than temporary relief.
The First Lady explained that under the RHI Economic Empowerment Programme, each beneficiary across the 36 states, the FCT, and among disabled military and police veterans received ₦200,000 to support and expand their small businesses. She stressed that persons with disabilities must be seen as capable contributors to national development when given the enabling environment and resources to thrive. Senator Tinubu commended the resilience of the beneficiaries and urged them to use the grants to create lasting economic impact.
In her goodwill speech, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, Wife of the Governor of Delta State and Founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, applauded the Renewed Hope Initiative for extending meaningful empowerment to vulnerable citizens. She described the gesture as timely and impactful, aligning with Delta State’s agenda of inclusive growth and social welfare.
Oborevwori emphasized that disability should never limit access to opportunity, adding that Delta State remains committed to supporting programmes that uplift the vulnerable and strengthen economic participation. She encouraged the beneficiaries to apply the funds responsibly to enhance their enterprises and improve their livelihoods.
The programme featured the distribution of ₦200,000 empowerment grants to eligible beneficiaries in Delta State, who expressed gratitude for the intervention. Representatives of disability groups and development partners also gave goodwill messages, describing the initiative as a significant step toward building a society that prioritizes inclusion and equal rights.
With the Renewed Hope Initiative driving this nationwide empowerment effort, the commemoration of World Disability Day continues to reinforce the call for a more inclusive Nigeria where every citizen, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive.
