Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, Wife of the Governor of Delta State, has distributed learning aids to two schools for children with special needs in Aniocha South Local Government Area, as part of efforts to promote inclusive education and improve teaching and learning outcomes among vulnerable pupils.
The wife of the Governor of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, while addressing pupils, teachers and stakeholders at Abuanor Primary School, Ogwashi-Uku, stated that the presentation of learning aids formed the core purpose of her visit, noting that children with special needs require tailored educational materials to enhance comprehension, confidence and overall development. She explained that the intervention was aimed at bridging learning gaps and supporting teachers in delivering effective instruction.
Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, emphasized that through the ‘You Matter Charity Foundation,’ she would continue to identify and respond to the needs of special children across the state. She reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring safe learning environments, adequate infrastructure and the provision of essential educational tools to enable every child thrive, regardless of physical or learning challenges.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Headmistress of Abuanor Primary School, Ogwashi-Uku, Mrs Bethel Uzumefune, expressed deep appreciation to Her Excellency for selecting the school for the intervention. She described Abuanor Primary School, founded in 1904 and formerly known as St. Peter’s School, as one of the oldest educational institutions in Delta State and a UNICEF-designated centre that has produced men and women of great repute.
Mrs Uzumefune highlighted the increasing number of physically challenged pupils in the school and stressed the urgent need for teaching aids, specialized teachers, improved classroom facilities and enhanced security, adding that the learning materials donated would significantly improve instructional delivery.
At Martin Education Special Primary School, Ubulu-Uku, the Principal, Mrs Odogbo Regina Isioma, commended Her Excellency for her compassion and practical support for children with special needs. She noted that the donation of learning aids would go a long way in addressing some of the challenges faced by the school, particularly in teaching pupils with diverse learning needs. Mrs Odogbo described the visit as timely and reassuring, assuring that the materials would be judiciously utilized for the benefit of the pupils.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr Samuel Mariere, thanked Deaconess Oborevwori for prioritizing special needs education and for complimenting government efforts through targeted interventions. He noted that the distribution of learning aids would enhance the quality of teaching in both schools and pledged SUBEB’s continued collaboration in strengthening basic education across the state.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Sir Byron Unini, who gave the vote of thanks, expressed gratitude to the Governor’s wife for her sustained commitment to education and the welfare of special children. He assured that the Ministry would follow up on the issues raised during the visit, while thanking school administrators, teachers and parents for their cooperation and support.
The visit concluded with the presentation of learning aids to both schools and expressions of joy from pupils, teachers and parents, who described the intervention as a major boost to special needs education in the area.
