The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, has called on journalists in the state to uphold the ethics of the profession and remain committed to their duties in their respective offices.
Comrade Oyowe made the call on Monday, 12th January 2025, in Warri, during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected executive members of the Field Information Chapel which was held at the Warri Field Office.
The election produced Comrade Kessiena Egajivwie as Chairman and Comrade Davis Obojobo as Secretary, with Comrade Egajivwie emerging as the first female Chairman in the history of the Field Information Chapel.
In his remarks, Comrade Oyowe expressed delight at the impressive turnout of members at the event, describing it as a sign of unity and strength within the chapel. He assured the new executives of his support, noting that the welfare and interest of journalists in Delta State would remain his top priority.
The NUJ State Chairman urged members to approach the chapel executives with love and understanding whenever issues arise, adding that collective effort would help strengthen the union and the profession.
Earlier in his valedictory speech, the outgoing Chairman of the Field Information Chapel, Comrade Charles Ojefia, thanked members for their support throughout his tenure. He highlighted some of his achievements, including the opening of a bank account for the chapel and organizing training programmes for members despite limited funds. He appealed to members to extend the same support to the new leadership.
In her acceptance speech, the newly sworn-in Chairman, Comrade Kessiena Egajevwie, expressed gratitude to the NUJ Delta State Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, for attending the ceremony. She also thanked the outgoing Chairman, Comrade Charles Ojefia, for his support and encouragement which contributed to her emergence as Chairman.
Comrade Kessiena appealed to members of the Field Information Chapel to embrace unity and support her administration, noting that collective cooperation would be key to achieving the goals of the chapel.
The high point of the ceremony was the formal inauguration of the new executives, led by Comrade Kessiena Egajivwie.
