As part of the gathering momentum of support for the Oborevwori administration’s people-centred development agenda in Delta State, a group of cerebral academics under the aegis of “Coalition of Academics for Sheriff” on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, with a firm commitment to continue to mobilize and articulate support for the administration.
Speaking at the Conference hall of the Ministry of Information in Asaba, Mr. Aniagwu commended the group, led by its coordinator, Professor Lawrence Omo-Aghoja, for what the commissioner described as its “organic support” for the administration since inception.
“Your support has been consistent; and it’s not because you are in search of a job for yourselves, but to advance the course of good governance in Delta State which Governor Oborevwori represents.”
The Commissioner emphasized the primary role of government to be the welfare and security of the people, a constitutional mandate which he said the Oborevwori administration has continued to hold sacrosanctly.
Aniagwu stressed that the governor’s passion for the welfare of the state’s workforce, both active and retired, as well as the coordinated infrastructural development across the state continue to bear testimony to the governor’s welfarist disposition.
“Today, as most of us can testify, if you go to places like DSC Roundabout, PTI Roundabout, Enerhen junction, the Effurun Roundabout area and a whole lot of other places across this state, you will discover that, indeed, our Governor is redefining the skyline of the state.”
The commissioner also mentioned the ongoing flyover bridges at Otovwodo in Ughelli North Local Government Area, and the one at Uromi Junction, Agbor in Ika South as legacy projects that would etch the Governor’s name firmly in the sands of time.
Aniagwu assured the group that the Ministry of Information will collaborate with it in propagating the policies and programmes of the Oborevwori administration, stressing that the state government would leverage on the intellectual sagacity of the coalition to help analyse the government’s policies and simplify them for easier understanding by the public.
“We would require your collaboration, especially in the four thematic areas of the administration’s MORE Agenda: How much we are bringing meaningful development to the people; How much we’re creating opportunities across board; How much we’re ensuring realistic reforms across different sectors, and, of course the extent to which we have been able to bring peace and security to bear in the everyday lives of Deltans.”
Mr. Aniagwu stressed further that the proactive leadership of Governor Oborevwori has further provided an atmosphere for cooperation among security agencies in the state, eliminating inter-agency rivalries which is the bane of security management in other jurisdictions outside the state.
Speaking earlier, the coordinator of the Coalition of Academics for Sheriff, Professor Lawrence Omo-Aghoja described his coalition as “a group of progressive and forward-looking academics who have organised themselves to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his exemplary leadership and the plethora of infrastructural development projects across the state.”
Prof Omo-Aghoja stated that the goal of the coalition is to work with all stakeholders, institutions of the state government to provide “very robust and intellectual articulation of the different aspects of the state government’s policies to support the Governor’s re-election in the 2027 General elections.”
Omo-Aghoja and his coalition are seeking a strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Information to embark on public advocacy activities to further showcase the extensive developmental initiatives of the Oborevwori administration.
As the Delta state government continues to unveil critical infrastructure and social welfare programmes across the different Senatorial districts in the state, touching the lives of the average citizen, it is expected that in the current year, Deltans from all walks of life will continue to display their support for the administration’s initiatives.
