The Delta State Government in its bid to ensure that all road projects are completed to specification and standard has resolved to embark on periodic physical project inspections of ongoing projects.
The Honourable Commissioner for Works Highways and Urban Roads, Comrade Reuben Izeze made this revelation when he went with senior Engineers in the Ministry to inspect the construction of the Edion road, off Oteri-Okpare road in Oteri town, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The Honourable Commissioner emphasized that the Government of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori had insisted that no project in the State will go unsupervised and all funds expended on any contact would be accounted for.
“The Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori has resolved that there will be no free lunch on the table for any Contactor that is to say that they must earn every Kobo for every contract.
“So when you see me, you are not seeing Reuben Izeze as an individual, you are seeing an extension of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s octopus arms that is everywhere.
“So I am here today because the Governor insisted that projects that are completed must be certified to have been completed according to specification before certificate is issued and payments made.” The Honourable Commissioner said.
He said that his visit to the Oteri road project in Ughelli North L.G.A. was to ascertain that the project was completed to specification.
“The Contractor said they have completed the work and we have come to see for ourselves and we have made some observations, very critical observations for some corrections that are critical to be made and until such corrections are made, we consider this project to be incomplete.” He said.
The Oteri road project is a 600m road with drainage, culverts, binder course, discharge drain, slabs and thermoplastic road markings.
Also on the Honourable Commissioner’s team were the Deputy Director, Ministry of Works, Highways and Urban Roads, Engr. Oghenerume Sinibuen, Special Assistant (Technical) to the Honourable Commissioner, Engr. EjoviAdasen, Superintendent Engr. Ministry of Works, Highways and Urban Roads, Engr. Anthony Oramadike
