The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), under the World Bank supported Identification for Development (ID4D) initiative, has commenced a free community based National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment exercise in Ughelli.
The outreach programme which is aimed at increasing access to NIN registration by taking the exercise directly to the grassroots is particularly targeted at residents who are unable to visit regular NIMC enrolment centres including children, elderly and rural dwellers.
According to information made available, the exercise covers Nigerians aged five years and above and sponsored by Crescent Royal BVM, a licensed NIMC enrolment partner.
The initiative is designed to ensure seamless registration while eliminating financial and logistical barriers at the grassroots.
Officials explained that the exercise is completely free and warned members of the public against paying any fees or patronising unauthorised individuals posing as enrolment agents.
Residents have been encouraged to cooperate with enrolment officials to ensure smooth operations and maximum participation, as the exercise is expected to enhance access to essential services including banking, healthcare, education and government social programmes.
