The Delta State Ministry of Justice has strengthened its collaboration with the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) as part of sustained efforts to promote and protect the rights of women, children and other vulnerable persons across the state.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment during the presentation of office equipment to the Asaba Branch of FIDA at his office in Asaba. He was represented by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Omamuzo Erebe, SAN.
Mr. Ohwovoriole explained that the donation was in fulfilment of an earlier pledge by the Ministry to support FIDA’s operations and enhance its institutional capacity. The items presented include an all-in-one computer system, a printer and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units, which he noted would improve efficiency, data management and overall service delivery.
According to the Attorney-General, the intervention is aimed at strengthening access to justice, particularly by supporting FIDA’s mandate of safeguarding the rights of women and children, while positioning the organisation to provide more effective services to the public.
He added that the initiative aligns with the Ministry’s broader objective of reinforcing institutions involved in the administration of justice and the protection of human rights in Delta State.
In her response, the Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Nigeria, Asaba Branch, Mrs. Ifeoma Iloba, commended the Delta State Ministry of Justice for its sustained support and collaborative partnership.
Mrs. Iloba disclosed that the organisation has recorded notable progress in recent months, particularly in training, documentation and capacity development, attributing these achievements to the Ministry’s interventions.
She noted that the provision of office equipment and improved access to technology would enable FIDA to engage more effectively at national and international levels, enhance case tracking, analyse trends, and respond promptly to issues affecting women and children.
According to her, the support will significantly enhance the organisation’s efficiency and professionalism, reaffirming FIDA’s appreciation of the Ministry’s continued commitment to the protection of the rights of women and children in Delta State.
