Delta State has reaffirmed its commitment to foster peace and security within oil-producing communities and across the state for meaningful development in the state in line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, saying that this will help to enhance investments in the oil and gas sector and the state in general.
The State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Hon Peter Uviejitobor disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police Delta State Command in Asaba.
He appealed to security agencies to collaborate with the state government to create a more enabling and peaceful environment for businesses to thrive for sustainable development.
Uviejitobor said the ministry is saddled with the responsibility to implement the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) to ensure total compliance between host communities and oil companies operating in the state.
“We cannot carry out this tasks without collaboration with security agencies, stating that our aim is to boost oil production to increase the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as well reduced restiveness in the oil and gas sector”. He added.
The Oil and Gas Commissioner said that our mediatory role in the oil and gas sector has create peaceful and friendly environment for oil and gas activities to thrive, adding that we seek collaboration with all stakeholders so that we can maintain the already existing peace in the state.
He reiterated that “it is our priority to maintain our position as the highest oil producing state in the country”, adding that he is out to re-organise and strengthen the oil and gas industry in the state to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Responding, the State Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command CP Aina Adesola, Psc, assured him of their support in enhancing peace and security within the state and across the country.
Adesola advised that he involve the police during any crisis in oil-producing communities to address the situation promptly and prevent escalation.
He affirmed that they would work in synergy with other stakeholders to protect Deltans and physical infrastructures in the state and our natural resources so as to boost the state’s economy the growth and development of the state.
He also pledged to collaborate with the ministry to enhance investment attraction to the state, while assuring the Commissioner of their cooperation in his commitment to improve oil production through peace and security.
