The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned an apprentice and an accomplice over the alleged murder of his employer, Ikechukwu Nwite, and the theft of millions of naira belonging to the deceased.
The prime suspect, Chiemerie Anieke, was said to have killed his employer with a pestle during an altercation on February 16 in Fegge, Onitsha. The incident reportedly occurred after the deceased confronted the apprentice over alleged pilfering of money and drug use.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department arraigned the suspects on March 18, 2026, before the High Court in Onitsha.
“Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Anambra State Police Command, on March 18, 2026, successfully arraigned two suspects in connection with the murder of one Ikechukwu Simon Nwite and the subsequent theft of his funds,” the statement read.
Ikenga identified the second defendant as Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, 21, who allegedly aided the crime by providing a bank account used to transfer over N8m belonging to the deceased.
“The prime suspect, Chiemerie Anieke, aged 21, allegedly used a pestle to strike his employer on the head, resulting in his death. He was arraigned alongside Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, who allegedly provided a bank account through which over N8,000,000 was fraudulently transferred,” he added.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that operatives recovered N6m from the suspects, part of the stolen funds, which has been tendered as evidence in court.
According to him, the suspects have been remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.
“The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring that justice is served and warns individuals against engaging in criminal activities, as the long arm of the law will always catch up with offenders,” the statement added.
