Properties worth millions of Naira has been saved from being gulped by a fire outbreak at an uptown event center in the Amukpe area of Sapele after men of the Delta State Fire Service, Sapele Service Station swiftly put out a fire outbreak that had threatened to raze down the building.
According to the Director, Delta State Fire Service, Dr. Eugene Oziwelle who spoke to journalist in his office in Asaba, the Sapele Service Station had been alerted of a fire outbreak at the Gladys Event Center in Amukpe at about 12:35 in the afternoon and the officers immediately moved down to the venue and swiftly put out the fire which had already engulfed a part of the building.
Dr. Oziwelle said the officers, while putting out the fire, also removed furniture and other items worth millions of Naira from the venue to a safe place.
He revealed that some of the workers at the center had attributed the fire outbreak to a suspected electric spark.
The workers said the spark hand landed on some materials which immediately caught the fire and set the hall ablaze but was adequately put out by the fire service.
The fire incident would be the second occurrence in the Sapele area within one week after an earlier fire incident at a residential area was put out by men of the State Fire Service stationed in Sapele after they were alerted to the area.
Oziwelle has enjoined Deltans to be wary of leaving electrical appliances on when not in use stressing that the current climatic condition could readily lead to fire outbreak because of the hot weather.
He also charged the people to desist from burning of bushes as well as calling on smokers to ensure they properly put out their cigarette stubs before throwing them away as the stubs could start a fire if dropped in a dry place especially grassy or bushy area.
Dr. Oziwelle also lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his continued support to the State Fire Service which had seen the Fire fighters attend swiftly to fire disasters across the state.
He asserted that the officers remained dedicated to their duties and enjoined the Governor not to relent in his support to the fire fighters as such support would continue to spur them on to responding quickly to any fire situations in the state.
