Delta State Police Command has arrested 202 suspects during a major intelligence-led raid on criminal hideouts and black spots across the Asaba metropolis, as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle crime and strengthen public safety in the state.
The operation, carried out on Saturday, July 4, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, alongside officers of the command. Acting on credible intelligence generated by the State Intelligence Department (SID), the police raided identified black spots, brothels and suspected illicit drug dens within Asaba.
The raid led to the arrest of 202 suspects, comprising 102 males and 100 females, for offences ranging from operating brothels to the possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, as well as other related criminal activities.
In addition to the arrests, the police impounded 25 vehicles comprising five motor vehicles, ten tricycles and ten motorcycles for various traffic violations. The offences included violations of extant traffic regulations, the state government’s restriction on tricycle operations and the ban on motorcycles in designated areas.
Speaking on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and sustained enforcement operations across the state.
“The Delta State Police Command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and sustained enforcement operations against all forms of criminality. We will continue to deny criminal elements the space to operate while ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” the Commissioner stated.
CP Oyeniyi also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with credible and timely information that would aid efforts to combat crime and maintain law and order.
The latest operation forms part of the command’s intensified campaign against criminal activities and public disorder across Delta State, with the police reiterating their resolve to sustain regular raids, visibility policing and intelligence-led operations aimed at making communities safer for residents.
