More women in Delta State will benefit from economic empowerment initiatives as the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up Project (NFWP-SU) expands its coverage to four additional local government areas, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has said.
Aniagwu spoke while receiving the State Project Coordinator of the NFWP-SU, Mrs Abigail Okonkwo, and her delegation, noting that the expansion would extend the programme’s impact by providing more women with opportunities for financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
He said the project aligns with the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to inclusive development and women’s economic empowerment, adding that the Delta State Government would continue to support initiatives that promote poverty reduction, financial independence and sustainable community development.
Aniagwu assured the delegation of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate in creating greater public awareness of the programme and its impact across the state.
Earlier, the State Project Coordinator of the NFWP-SU, Mrs Abigail Okonkwo, said the World Bank-supported programme is designed to improve the livelihoods of poor and unbanked women by organising them into sustainable Women Affinity Groups, promoting financial inclusion, strengthening their entrepreneurial and leadership capacities, and creating opportunities for increased income and social development.
She appealed to the Commissioner for the Ministry to partner with the project in publicising its activities and successes, noting that sustained public awareness would encourage greater participation, enhance stakeholder support and ensure that more eligible women across Delta State benefit from the programme.
