The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has charged newly posted National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the Delta State Ministry of Information to remain dedicated to their duties, uphold discipline and use their one-year service period to acquire valuable knowledge and skills that would improve their future prospects.
Aniagwu gave the charge when he received and welcomed corps members of Batch B, Stream II, recently posted to the Ministry, congratulating them on successfully completing their university education and commencing their national service.
He urged the corps members to see their posting not merely as a statutory obligation, but as an opportunity to learn, gain practical experience, build professional relationships and understand as much as possible about their chosen fields and the wider society.
The Commissioner stressed the importance of punctuality, commitment, respect for constituted authority and a positive attitude to work, urging them to approach their assignments with seriousness and professionalism. He encouraged them to be willing to learn from senior officers and contribute meaningfully to the activities of the Ministry throughout their service year.
Aniagwu also cautioned the corps members against allowing social media to become a distraction from their responsibilities, urging them instead to harness digital platforms for self-development, creativity, innovation and legitimate income generation.
He advised them to constantly seek opportunities to add value wherever they found themselves, stressing that acquiring useful skills and becoming productive would enhance their chances of achieving financial independence and making their parents proud.
“You must always look for what you can bring to the table, because the more value you are able to create, the more independent you become and the more fulfilled your parents will be,” he said.
The Commissioner further urged the corps members to make the most of their time at the Ministry by observing, asking questions, developing relevant competencies and taking advantage of the wealth of experience available within the organisation.
He noted that the knowledge, experience and relationships they build during their service year could become important stepping stones in their future careers, and encouraged them to leave a positive impression through hard work, good character and meaningful contributions.
Aniagwu assured them that the Ministry would provide a conducive environment for learning and professional development, while urging them to reciprocate by demonstrating responsibility, discipline and commitment to their assigned duties.
