Cadbury chocolate, Nissan and Guinness are among the latest global brands which have been warned to suspend advertising on ‘dangerous and toxic’ Twitter.
An advertising boycott of the social media app is mounting under the stewardship of Elon Musk, amid widespread redundancies which almost entirely gutted content moderation teams.
Tamara Littleton, chief executive of The Social Element, told The Telegraph she’d warned her clients to suspend any advertising on the app during a period of such turmoil.
‘With the sackings and the resignations, in brand protection and moderation, it is just a little bit too toxic,’ she said.
The Social Element represents clients like Cadbury owner Mondelez, Nissan, Dr Pepper and Guinness brewer, Diageo.
Ms Littleton’s recommendation to clients comes after Omnicom, one of the world’s biggest advertising companies, revealed earlier this week it had also advised clients to give the app a wide berth.
