The Federal Capital Territory Water Board has developed a five-year “Greater Abuja Water Plan” to adequately supply portable water to all residents of the nation’s capital, irrespective of location, distance or terrain.
The General Manager, FCT Water Board, Tauheed Amusan made the disclosure at a news briefing in Abuja.
Mr Amusun, who said the FCT Administration was much more concerned about inadequate water supply in the nation’s capital, told reporters that the “five year dream” is to “revitalize” the Water Board to help it meet both the domestic and industrial needs of all residents.
He said the entire Abuja Master plan on water was designed to cater for only 3 million people through the “instrumentality of eight loops”, adding that only two loops in Phase One of the water project have been completed since the inception of Abuja.
Mr Amusan commended the FCT administration for giving approval for the “immediate rehabilitation” of “Tank 2”, and expressed optimism that when loops 2, 5, 1 and 6 are completed and functional, the Board will be able to “seamlessly supply water” to 50 districts, with their own reticulated systems.
