The North East Development Commission, NEDC, has commenced the training of private security outfits to complement the effort of security agencies in combating criminal activities in Borno State.
The Borno State Coordinator of the Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Umaru, while declaring the training open in Maiduguri, said twenty registered private security outfits will participate in the programme.
Alhaji Umaru, said the training was aimed at enhancing the capacity of private security organisations to actively participate in crime prevention and maintenance of peace in the society.
Alhaji Umaru explained that apart from providing humanitarian support and empowerment programmes, NEDC also support activities that promote peace and development in the country.
He noted also that the commission was focusing on reintegration of repentant insurgents.
Coordinator of the training programme, Dr Mohammed Sulieman, said the training would promote synergy among security agents in the state, for effective service delivery.
According to him, the programme will cover aspects of intelligence gathering, strengthen collaboration among the organisations, security and law enforcement agencies as well as the community.
“We want to have this knowledge, how a security personnel will handle a case, how to handle a suspect, his role, his limit, this what we will be discussing during the exercise “ Dr Sulieman said.
Some of the participants expressed satisfaction with the training, noting that the programme would empower and equip them with requisite knowledge on how to effectively combat crime and insecurity in the Northeast regions.
The 3-day training was tagged: the role of informal security operatives in combating insecurity in the North East region.
