
Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Borno State Council Comrade Dauda Iliya has enjoined repentant Boko Haram insurgents to at all times promote peaceful coexistence when reintegrated into the society.
The Chairman gave the advise while delivering a lecture to minors and low-risk repentant insurgents undergoing deradicalisation process at Hajj camp in Maiduguri.
The lecture series organised by the Office of the Special Adviser to Borno state Governor on Security in conjunction with the ministry of Women Affairs is targeting 1300 members to be trained in different skills for period of two weeks.
Comrade Dauda Iliya in his presentation described the repentant insurgents as critical to achieving lasting peace not only in Borno but the entire country.

He charged them not to relent in searching for knowledge that will advance the cause of humanity and promote their means of livelihood.
The NUJ Chairman encouraged them to form peace clubs and associations in their neighbourhood so as to foster dialogue and harmonious relationship.
Special Adviser to Borno state Governor on Security Brigadier General Abdullahi Ishaq (retd) said the “Borno Model” is a community-based approach of deradicalising insurgents who willingly surrender to the authority.
According to him, 3,500 repentant insurgents have so far been reintegrated into the society without any form of protest or rejection from communities.
The two weeks training will cover areas such as civil duties, tolerance and brotherhood in Islam, community policing, entrepreneurship among others.
