
The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has suspended the Chairman, Governing Council, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Mr Banji Alabi with immediate effect.
Governor Akeredolu announced the suspension after receiving the report of the 7-member visitation panel to the Polytechnic in Akure.
Mr Alabi was indicted of refusing to honor several invitations sent to him by the visitation panel.
Submitting the Report, the Chairman of the panel, Prof Olabode Koriko explained that the Panel held meetings and interactions with relevant stakeholders from the Polytechnic and the host community before arriving at its recommendations.
Prof Koriko then applauded the government for releasing the sum of N1.6billion bailout to the Polytechnic, noting that it was a move by Governor Akeredolu to reposition the Polytechnic and restore its lost glory .
In a remark, Governor Akeredolu who appreciated members of the panel said government would be guided by the report to address the downward slide being observed in the Polytechnic.
Governor Akeredolu explained that there was no going back on the plan to upgrade the institution to a university since the Polytechnic had all facilities to become a university.
