The House of Representatives has considered for second reading a bill for an Act to amend the federal character commission.
The Amendment which seeks to make provisions for the appointment of the chairman and secretary from different regions of the country also sought to reflect the principles of federal character.
Leading the debate, the sponsor of the bill Mr Unyime Idem says the amendments are imputed to strengthen the administration, organization and management of the Commission in line with best practices and global standards.
While soliciting for the approval of the House, Unyime maintained that the patriotic move if supported by the Green chamber will further curb the irregularities in the commission.
Ruling on the Bill, the Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila mandated the House committee on Federal character to seek further legislative actions on the matter and report back to the green chamber for more scrutiny.
