The last batch of 20 ex-agitators from the Niger Delta region have finished a five-week mandatory training on aircraft maintenance engineering.
This training will result in them getting certified and rated to work as licensed aircraft maintenance engineers.
A total of 75 people benefiting from the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Aviation Resuscitation Training Scheme, including 35 trainee pilots and 40 aircraft maintenance engineers, have all completed their training.
At present, all 40 shortlisted engineers have finished their programs and will receive specialized training on certain types of aircraft engines.
The on-the-job (OJT) programme, will last for 12 months, during which their living expenses have already been fully covered by the PAP.
During the event in Lagos, the Interim Administrator of the PAP, Barry Ndiomu, reminded the graduating engineers of the importance of staying focused and striving for excellence.
Representing Gen. Barry, Wilfred Musa, Head of the Reintegration Department, urged government agencies to support the PAP’s efforts in developing skilled workers for crucial industries, both locally and internationally. He stated, “I call on the Ministry of Aviation & Aerospace Management as well as its related agencies to support and collaborate with the PAP on its ambitious talent development initiative.”
Mr. Musa also informed the audience that six trainee pilots out of the 12 sent to various aviation training organizations in Johannesburg, South Africa, in October 2023 will return to Nigeria this week after completing their specialized training program.
Some of the graduates, expressing their thoughts after the ceremony, were thrilled and deeply thankful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Interim Administrator, PAP, General Ndiomu, for their kindness and steadfast leadership, which have continually improved the quality of life in the Niger Delta region.
