The Delta State Chairman of Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), Pastor Greg Sifo, has revealed that the role of the organization was to carry out effective advocacy and ensure that healthcare service providers in the healthcare facilities are accountable.
Sifo stated this in Asaba during the ACOMIN ‘s monthly coordination meeting for the month of November, 2024 with the Community Based Organisations and their partners in the state.
He said that the objective of the organization was to change the narratives in the health sector by ensuring that health care service providers discharge their duties effectively and efficiently for the benefits of the society.
While appreciating God and the donor agency that had been funding the project for the successes recorded, the State ACOMIN Chair urged the CBOs to redouble their commitment to the project and lauded their partners in the state for their support thus far.
He explained that the state partners had been responding to ACOMIN whenever there was an issue that required their clarification, stressing that the collaboration had been very robust and fruitful.
Earlier, the State Programme Officer for ACOMIN, Sir Austen Uwede implored the CBOs to always endeavour to submit their reports as timely as possible, adding that any submission of reports outside the stipulated time frame would not be condoned.
Uwede informed their state partners and the CBOs that the state chairman of ACOMIN and himself visited Ozoro, headquarters of Isoko North and Kwale in Ndokwa West LGAs respectively and presented observed gaps identified in the facilities of implementation.
Specifically, he narrated the dilapidated status of Ogbe -Ani PHC and Owhelogbo PHC which was being occupied by non-facility staff in the staff quarters.
In their separate remarks, the state partners including the State Malaria Programme Manager, Ministry of Health, Dr. Julie Aniah; the Director of Partnership and Policy Control, State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Mrs. Grace Sifo and a representative of Management Sciences for Health (MSH), Mr. Raymond Emete said that CBOs should ensure that they reported their actual observations in the PHCs they were working on.
Mrs. Grace Sifo stressed the need for CBOs to ensure proper documentation in all their activities in healthcare facilities to avoid issues for them in the nearest future.
Speaking further, MSH representative said that malaria commodities were available at the various facilities, emphasizing that the shortage of the Rapid Diagnosis Test kits was being addressed just as he hinted that they would redistribute commodities to facilities that were already stocked out so that the affected facilities could have something to be working with.
The SACA representative also used the opportunity to inform ACOMIN that the World HIV/AIDS Day would be celebrated on December 1 with HIV and AIDS testing and a thanksgiving service at the Rock Church, DBS Road, Asaba, while the event would climax on December 2 with lighting of candles at the Inter-Bau Roundabout to honour those who died of HIV) AIDS and a rally to mark the World HIV and AIDS Day Celebration.
