Receiving the award at the 2024 end of year party, organized by Mgbala Primary School, Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area, Dr. Ashibogwu lauded the Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Rita Omagbemi and the teachers for the award and described it as a thing of joy.
Dr. Ashibogwu, who was represented at the event by the Director of Finance and Accounts, Ministry of Primary Education, Mr. Prince Okpan, appreciated the Headmistress of the school for her efforts at bringing some innovations to the school.
He said that the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori was irrevocably committed to bringingmeaningful development in the education sector, particularly in the area of training of teachers in line with his administration’s MORE Agenda.
Dr. Ashibogwu, however, decried the recent burgling incident in Mgbala and Umegbali Primary Schools by unscrupulous elements who made away with iron doors and windows and urged the community to try as much as they can to get the culprits.
He admonished the school head and teachers in the school to continue to put in their best in the upbringing of the children.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Headmistress of Mgbala Primary School, Mrs. Rita Omagbemi promised to ensure that teaching and learning was more effective in the school, adding that she would lead by example in order to make sure that punctuality was improved among teachers in the school.
Mrs. Omagbemi said that the major challenge of the school was the regular vandalization of classrooms and head teacher’s office and appealed to the state government to renovate the classrooms, just as she stated that they needed night security guards.
In a related development, the Headmistress of the Umegbali Primary School, Edith Owumi while delivering her address during the end of year party of the school recently, said that the school was experiencing frequent break-ins resulting in the theft of windows, protectors, doors and important documents by unknown individuals.
While calling on stakeholders in the community and parents as well as the government to assist the school with security guards to enhance security in the premises, provision of functional toilet facilities and functional borehole, Mrs. Owumi reminded them that there must be collective efforts to make the learning environment conducive.
She said that the support of the community was needed, noting that the quest for a conducive learning environment should not be left for the government alone to do.
