Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has cautioned Christians against pride, describing it as humanity’s greatest enemy.
Speaking at the ongoing annual Holy Ghost Congress themed “Onward Christian Soldiers” at the Redemption City of God, Pastor Adeboye delivered a message titled “Subdue the Flesh,” emphasizing the importance of humility in a Christian’s journey.
Highlighting pride as a destructive force, Pastor Adeboye said: “Pride leads to overconfidence. It is the mother of ingratitude. If you find it difficult to be grateful to God, or if you require motivation to truly praise Him, then you have a problem with pride.”
The General Overseer stressed the necessity of ascribing all achievements and successes to God, warning against overestimating one’s importance in God’s plans:
“Never think that without you, God is helpless. It is the other way around—you are helpless without God.”
Using biblical examples of individuals who failed due to pride, Pastor Adeboye urged Christians to embrace humility and always give glory to God. Quoting James 4:6, he added:
“God resists the proud. If you ever give room to pride, your ally—God—will join your enemy to fight against you.”
During his ministration, Pastor Adeboye announced a 100-day fasting and prayer exercise for RCCG members in 2025, marking a decade since the last 100-day fast in 2015. While specific dates were not provided, he indicated it would commence early in the year, as customary.
Addressing concerns about the intensity of the fast, he remarked:
“There’s no verse in the Bible that says the just shall live by fasting, but by faith. If fasting were to kill, I would be long gone.”
Reverend Felix Ilaweagbon Omobude, General Superintendent of Gospel Light International Ministries, also spoke at the Congress. In his message titled “Greater is He That is in You,” he underscored Jesus as the ultimate source of light and life:
“No Jesus, no life. No Jesus, no light. The winner in you makes you undefeatable.”
The Congress continues with teachings and sessions aimed at strengthening the faith and resolve of believers.
