The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has been commended for not abandoning projects he inherited from his predecessor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa and for initiating and executing projects that are beneficial to Deltans.
The commendation was given by the SecondCommissioner of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Chief Akpufuoma Pemu during a broadcast program, recently.
The program titled “Emokpe Wadoo” was broadcast from Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Warri aired in Okpe language and was anchored by Pastor Ejenavi Joseph.
According to Dr Pemu, Governor Oborevwori displayed an uncommon feat as many would have abandoned inherited projects as their interest would have been making a name for themselves instead of the common good of Deltans.
He enumerated some of the inherited projects to include the storm water project in Asaba and Warri, dualization of the Ughelli -Asaba road and other internal roads across the state.
Pemu used the medium to list some projects the present administration initiated (completed and ongoing) to include construction of flyovers at PTI junction, DSC roundabout, and Enerhen junction; construction of link roads, erection of buildings in the various higher institutions in the state and lots more.
He explained that when the Governor came to power he met over 5 billion naira as arrears owed to civil servants which he defrayed in tranches.
According to the Commissioner, to avoid future occurrence and to enable civil servants to get their promotion as at when due, the governor approved that promotions examination should be conducted twice a year as against once.
In the education sector, the Commissioner stated that the Governor’s cordial relationship with the Presidency has led to the approval of Aviation College in Delta State, which will serve the South South geopolitical zone; and he has also approved a campus of the Southern Delta University to be situated in Orerokpe to reach more Deltans.
Chief Pemu described the Governor as a detribalized Deltan as he executes Projects across the state as he promised in his inaugural speech.
Speaking on empowerment to arrest restiveness, Pemu stated that the governor has empowered over 200,000 Deltans irrespective of their ethnic group or political affiliation.
He enjoined youths to make themselves available when such opportunity comes, adding that ‘white collar’ jobs were limited, hence the continuous efforts of both the federal and state governments to ensure that youths were empowered.
Dr Pemu appealed to youths to work hard, be patient and law abiding so as to get their desired goals in life.
He warned that youths should desist from vandalization and stealing of public properties as anyone caught in the act would face the full wrath of the law.
