The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to the brutal murder of a site engineer, Chigozie Udalor, whose body was exhumed from a shallow grave at a fish farm in Akwukwu-Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area.
The incident came to light after Hyacinth Nnalue reported to the Akwukwu-Igbo Police Division on December 12, 2024, that his cousin, Chigozie Udalor, had been missing since December 10. Udalor, who was the site manager of a fish farm in Bod Camp, Akwukwu-Igbo, was allegedly murdered by his workers over financial motives.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) launched an investigation before transferring the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. Acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the DPO of Ekpan Division, CSP Aliyu Shaba, deployed operatives for a technically driven and intelligence-led investigation.
The breakthrough came on March 31, 2025, when detectives arrested David Tacho, a suspect caught attempting to withdraw money from the victim’s Moniepoint account using his phone. Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Daniel Orshio, who was directly involved in the murder.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrests in a statement, revealing that the investigation exposed a conspiracy among four workers employed by the deceased. “The suspects—David Tacho, Daniel Orshio, Pius Daniel, and Victor Tacho—discovered that the victim had some money in his account. They conspired, used a hammer to strike him on the head, tied him up, and buried him in a shallow grave at the site,” he stated.
While David Tacho and Daniel Orshio are currently in custody, the other two suspects, Pius Daniel and Victor Tacho, remain at large. Meanwhile, the remains of the victim have been exhumed for an autopsy as police intensify efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.
“The Delta State Police Command is committed to ensuring justice prevails, and we are working tirelessly to apprehend the remaining suspects,” SP Edafe assured.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the Akwukwu-Igbo community, with residents calling for heightened security measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
