The Delta State Police Command has announced plans to celebrate National Police Day on April 7, 2025, in line with a presidential directive to recognize the invaluable contributions of police officers to national security and public safety. The event also aims to strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, extended a warm invitation to all residents to take part in the celebrations, emphasizing the importance of public participation. “National Police Day is not just a time to honour our officers but also a platform to foster trust and collaboration with the people we protect,” he stated.
As part of the week-long activities from April 2 to April 7, the command has outlined a series of initiatives focused on community welfare and security awareness. One of the key highlights is a free medical outreach, scheduled to take place at the Police Clinic in Asaba on April 4. This initiative, according to the police, underscores their commitment to the health and well-being of the public. Officers will also embark on a large-scale sanitation exercise across all 25 local government areas of the state, aimed at cleaning and improving public spaces.
Further reinforcing their community engagement efforts, the command will hold a town hall meeting with traditional rulers, government officials, and other key stakeholders. This session will serve as a platform to discuss security concerns, share ideas on crime prevention strategies, and explore ways to enhance police-community collaboration. In addition, officers will visit schools to educate students on the dangers of cultism, violent crime, and gender-based violence, with the goal of guiding young people toward positive life choices.
To conclude the week, a symbolic Walkathon will be organized, representing strength, unity, and the enduring partnership between the police and the people.
SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to community engagement and public trust. “This celebration is more than just a yearly event; it is a reaffirmation of our dedication to protecting lives and ensuring peace in Delta State. We encourage residents to actively participate in these activities and work with us to build a safer society,” he said.
With these initiatives, the Delta State Police Command aims to make National Police Day an annual tradition that not only honours officers but also reinforces their essential role in ensuring security and fostering goodwill with the public.
