The Parish Priest of St Anthony Catholic Church Ugborikoko Effurun, Father Godwin Oriji, has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and steadfast despite the nation’s current challenges, emphasizing that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a powerful symbol of renewal and divine intervention.
Delivering his Easter sermon on Sunday, the cleric described the resurrection of Christ as the foundation of the Christian faith, noting that without it, life would lack meaning and hope. He stressed that Easter is not only a period of celebration but also a reminder that difficult moments are temporary and can give way to joy and restoration.
Drawing a parallel between the story of the risen Christ and Nigeria’s present situation, the priest urged citizens not to lose faith in the country. He expressed optimism that just as Christ triumphed over death, Nigeria would overcome its trials.
According to him, God has the power to touch the hearts of the nation’s leaders, guiding them toward making decisions that will bring peace, progress, and development to the country. He encouraged leaders at all levels to embrace righteousness, justice, and compassion in the discharge of their duties.
The priest further admonished Nigerians to remain united, prayerful, and resilient, noting that hope remains a vital force in navigating the nation’s socio-economic difficulties. He urged citizens to trust in God’s timing, assuring them that a better future is possible.
The Easter celebration, he added, serves as a message of reassurance that no matter the depth of hardship, there is always the promise of renewal, victory, and hope.
