The Delta State Police Command has intensified its war against cultism and violent crime, recording a significant breakthrough with the arrest of four suspects, disruption of a planned cult initiation, and recovery of firearms and illicit substances in separate operations across the State.
In a statement issued on April 13, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that the operations were part of sustained intelligence-led policing efforts aimed at restoring peace and security.
According to the statement, one of the major breakthroughs occurred on Saturday April 11, when operatives of Delta Shield, while on routine surveillance patrol in Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area, intercepted a 32-year-old suspect, Peter Onajite.
“A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one locally made double barrel cut-to-size pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, as well as sachets of suspected Tramadol,” the statement revealed.
Preliminary investigations further exposed the suspect as a self-confessed leader of the notorious Juris Confraternity, raising concerns over the continued activities of cult groups in the area. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
In a related development, the Command successfully foiled a suspected cult initiation on Sunday April 12, following credible intelligence regarding activities of members of the Aiye Confraternity along Jordan Road in Ibusa.
Police operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene, leading to the arrest of three suspects, including a female, while one Chinedu Onyeama, alleged to be a key figure in the initiation, escaped and is currently at large.
Items recovered at the scene include “one English-made Beretta pistol with one round of live ammunition, three battle axes, one hammer, one cutlass, and thirty-nine firelighters,” underscoring the dangerous nature of the gathering.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers for their swift and professional response.
“The Command remains committed to intelligence-led policing and will not relent in its efforts to clamp down on cultism and other violent crimes across Delta State,” he stated.
The police further assured residents that operations will be sustained, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects and dismantle criminal networks operating within the State.
The latest arrests and recoveries signal a renewed push by the Delta State Police Command to rid communities of cult-related violence and reinforce public safety.
