The Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon Funkekeme Solomon God has called on well-meaning Nigerians to put to heart inmates in different correctional centres by showing them compassion.
Rt. Hon Solomon made the remarks when he took the train of his 64th birth anniversary celebrations to the Ogwashi uku Correctional Centre, Ogwashi-Ukwu, in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, to ensure the inmates have a sense of belonging.
Solomon admonished the inmates to be hopeful and patient, adding that they remain “special in the sight of God.”
His words: “Some became president in their various countries when they passed through the process of correctional training, and that when God was through with them, the world celebrated them.
The Senior Policy Adviser, who spent time addressing the inmates along with his staff and correctional centre officials, said his decision to mark the celebration at the facility was motivated by a desire to demonstrate compassion and support for the well-being of the inmates by providing some essential items.
“I am here to assure you that no mistake is beyond correction. Imprisonment is only a temporary phrase of life. Make up your mind to weather this storm. No storm lasts forever,” he added.
The Rt. Hon. Solomon emphasized the need for society to recognise the shared humanity of all individuals, regardless of their circumstances.
He noted that many people often overlook those in correctional centres, stressing that humanity is one and that the condition of one person should be of concern to others.
The deputy controller in charge of Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre, represented by the Chief Superintendent of the custodian centre, CSC Emmanuel Ofulue, expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the correctional centre staff and inmates, prayers were said the celebrant that “this will not be last birthday you will celebrate, you will celebrate many more birthdays to come.”.
Earlier, the management and staff of the Senior Policy Adviser to the governor celebrated their boss with surprise packages.
Glasses were raised in honour of Rt.Hon Funkekeme Solomon, and prayers were said for the celebrant.
