The Head of Service of Delta State, Dr. (Mrs) Mininim Oseji, has called on the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, LGAN, to train and mentor more women to take up golf, noting that the sport is an effective form of exercise and well-being.
She made the call while receiving representatives of LGAN on a courtesy visit in Asaba.
Dr Oseji thanked the association for honouring her with investiture as an Ambassador of the All Africa Challenge Trophy, a biennial continental championship for amateur women golfers designed to foster competition, camaraderie, and talent development across Africa.
Describing golf as effortless, refreshing, and unifying, she encouraged more people to play, saying regular participation supports physical health and is especially beneficial for those with sedentary lifestyles. She also pledged ₦100,000 to support activities of the Asaba golf club.
Earlier, LGAN President, Dr Lami Ahmed, briefed the Head of Service on the association’s activities, including Nigeria’s successful bid to host the All Africa Challenge Trophy. She invited Dr Oseji to participate in the championship scheduled for November 2026 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, noting that her involvement would inspire other golfers.
Dr Ahmed commended Delta State for its commitment to sports development and appealed to the state government to continue supporting and nurturing golfers to compete fully in the championship.
The visit ended with Dr Oseji being decorated with a muffler as Ambassador of the All Africa Challenge Trophy by Dr Ahmed.
