A sensitization programme to deepen awareness of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s physical development agenda, has been organized by the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Renewal, Hon. Sunday Tatabuzogwu, in Asaba, the state capital.
The sensitization carried out through a road walk, took the directors and staff of the ministry across major streets of Asaba, distributing flyers tagged “For a Sustainable Environment, engage a Town Planner,” which outlined the services rendered by the ministry.
Tatabuzogwu, describing himself as a round peg in a round hole, having carved a niche in the industry, said there is need to propagate the physical development policies and actions of the Oborevwori administration, adding that the governor’s monumental development strides across the state places much expectations on all those involved in building and other forms of physical development across the state.
“That was why we decided on the theme because of the critical role of the town planner. They should know that we are not coming to witch hunt anybody but to guide them in doing things the proper way, so as to avoid the wrath of the law.”
“The law is there and that is why we serve stop work and contravention notices and follow them up with necessary actions.”
Meanwhile, the commissioner informed that the “Urban Information System, a dashboard that will bring together all that concerns physical Planning in the state will soon be unveiled.”
The outgoing Permanent Secretary, Dr. (Mrs.) Charity Ehimen, who was joined by the new PS, Mr. Wilson Chukwuka said the government wants to take the state back to the era of Government Reserved Areas, GRAs, and improve livelihoods through compliance with building codes.
Director of Town Planning, TPL Eddy Ewesuodo and Assistant Director, Department of Urban Development, TPL Richard Refo, both urged building and estate developers to visit the ministry for guidance. Also speaking during the public enlightenment included Deputy Director, Town Planning, TPL (Mrs.) Buchi Nwachukwu, and others.
