The Delta State Police Command has recorded major successes in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities, arresting members of a suspected fraud syndicate and two alleged drug dealers in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The operations led to the recovery of 1,600 counterfeit United States dollar bills, military camouflage, and large quantities of suspected illicit drugs.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit acted on credible intelligence on June 9 and placed under surveillance a five-man gang allegedly involved in defrauding unsuspecting victims with fake United States dollar notes while operating in a red, unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV.
The operation culminated in the arrest of four suspects identified as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma, and John Egwuba along Nnebisi Road in Asaba.
“During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to operating from a hideout in Asaba,” Edafe stated.
Following the confessions, police operatives raided the hideout and recovered 1,600 counterfeit dollar bills and military camouflage concealed within the premises.
Police said investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s activities and identify other accomplices.
In a separate operation carried out on the same day, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) stormed Owaliru and Alihame communities in Ika North-East Local Government Area following actionable intelligence.
Two female suspects, Ifeoma Egbule, 36, and Anayeokwu Florence, 51, were arrested with substantial quantities of suspected illicit substances, including GH Gold, Colorado, Cannabis, and Canadian Loud.
“The exhibits were recovered and taken into custody alongside the suspects,” the police spokesperson disclosed.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were actively involved in the distribution of the prohibited substances within the area, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the drug distribution network.
Commending the officers involved in the operations, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised their professionalism, diligence, and commitment to duty.
He reiterated the Command’s determination to sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of residents across Delta State.
The Police Command urged members of the public to continue providing useful information that would assist law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime.
