The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man identified simply as Richard for allegedly killing his lover, Caroline Sunday, during a domestic dispute over allegations of infidelity in Eneka, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, reportedly began after the suspect confronted the deceased over claims that she was being unfaithful—an allegation she denied.
According to residents, the disagreement escalated into a physical assault during which the woman allegedly fell and struck her head against a sharp edge of a wall, suffering fatal injuries.
A resident, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said, “During the argument, he assaulted the woman. She fell and hit her head against a sharp edge of a wall, resulting in severe injuries. “Neighbours who heard her screams rushed to the scene and found her lying in a pool of blood. Efforts to revive her failed before the police were alerted.”
The source said operatives from the Eneka Police Division responded promptly to the distress call and met angry residents who had restrained the suspect.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the state police command, Blessing Agabe, said the suspect was in police custody while investigations continued.
“I can confirm that the suspect is in our custody. An investigation is ongoing to ascertain the true circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice is served.
“Immediately the incident was reported, our officers swung into action and arrested the suspect. The deceased’s body has been recovered and deposited in the mortuary,” she said.
