OYEDE, ISOKO NORTH LGA, DELTA STATE: The Oyede Kingdom in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State recorded a landmark event in its history as Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, formally presented the Staff of Office to the first-ever Ovie (King) of Oyede Kingdom, HRM Engr. Sir Goodnews Goodman Agbi, PhD, FNSE, FNICE, FNI, Athuaro I.
The presentation ceremony which was held at the Catholic Church Playground in Oyede, symbolized the official recognition and authority of the new monarch by the Delta State Government.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Oborevwori, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme congratulated the people of Oyede on this historic milestone. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to partnering with traditional institutions to entrench peace, security, and sustainable development across the state.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Isoko North LGA, Hon. Godwin Ogorugba expressed optimism that the reign of HRM Athuaro I will bring accelerated growth to Oyede Kingdom, given the monarch’s wealth of experience in engineering, governance, and community service.
In his royal address, HRM Engr. Sir Goodnews Goodman Agbi thanked God, the Delta State Government, and the people of Oyede for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to use his throne to promote unity, attract development, and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Oyede.
The event was graced by royal fathers from across Isoko and beyond, top government officials, captains of industry, religious leaders, the Oyede Council of Chiefs, and members of the Knights of St. John International.
The atmosphere was electric as Oyede youths and indigenes trooped out in their numbers to celebrate what many described as “the beginning of a new era” for the kingdom.
