A 16-year-old boy is in police custody following the fatal stabbing of a 20-year-old man, Uwem Daniel Akpan, during a misunderstanding. The tragic incident, Vanguard gathered, happened at Peters Street, Awi, Akamkpa Local Government, Cross River State, yesterday at about 7:30 pm.
Checks by Vanguard showed that both Suspect and victim were neighbours living in the same compound.
According to the Command, Akpan was rushed to the Navy Reference Hospital, Calabar, after the stabbing where he was confirmed dead on arrival by doctors.
Also, his body has since been released to his family.
Confirming the incident, police spokesman, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, said the minor suspect was promptly arrested and is currently helping detectives with investigations.
A 16-year-old male suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody,” Akata said in a statement.
He said the case file would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Calabar, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
“The case is being processed for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Calabar, for further investigation and appropriate legal action in accordance with the law,” the PPRO stated. He appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid jungle justice as police get to the root of the killing.
The Command urges members of the public to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, while assuring that the circumstances surrounding the incident will be thoroughly investigated,” he said.
He promised that the Command would keep the public updated as investigations progress.
“Further information will be provided as the investigation progresses and relevant facts are established,” Eitokpah added.
