The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, represented by the Functioning Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mrs. Stella Macaulay, alongside staff of the ministry, joined family members, friends and well-wishers to honour Deacon Christopher Okoro at his Retirement Thanksgiving Service after 35 years of meritorious service in the Delta State Civil Service.
The thanksgiving service was held at Christ’s Chosen Church of God International, Asaba 2 Branch, Asaba, and marked the successful completion of Deacon Okoro’s public service career.
The service was presided over by the Spiritual Leader of Christ’s Chosen Church of God International, Senior Apostle David Unuefe Ikhiwhu, who delivered an exhortation titled “Do Not Allow Yourself to Be Deceived,” drawing his text from Ephesians 5:6.
In his sermon, Apostle Ikhiwhu lamented the increasing rate of moral decadence in society, attributing it to widespread deception, the quest for quick wealth and the growing incidence of divorce. He urged Christians and members of the public to remain steadfast in their faith and uphold godly values.
Quoting Ephesians 5:11-12, he admonished the congregation to walk closely with God and avoid participating in unfruitful works of darkness.
According to him, the gathering was not only to celebrate retirement but also to honour a life of integrity, diligence and faithful service as exemplified by Deacon Okoro.
Speaking during the service, Deacon Okoro reflected on his 35-year journey in the civil service, expressing gratitude to God for His faithfulness throughout his career and family life.
He recounted how he was able to build a house during his years in service, which was later demolished by government. However, he noted that he was subsequently compensated and was able to build another house where he currently resides.
The retiree also disclosed that he got married and raised his children while in active service, describing his years in government as both challenging and rewarding.
While acknowledging that time would not permit him to share all his experiences, he hinted at plans to document his life journey and public service experiences in a book.
The thanksgiving service ended with prayers and goodwill messages for the celebrant, after which guests were treated to a reception at his residence in Asaba.
