The Permanent Secretary Office of the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Dr. Onyeisi Nkenchor has charged civil servants, particularly senior officers, to take seriously the ongoing training on the digitalizationof government work processes.
Nkenchor gave the charge while declaring open the one-day digitalization training programme organizedfor senior officers in the Office of the Deputy Governor at the Conference Hall, Government House, Asaba.
He said the training was an initiative of the Office of the Head of Service, duly approved by the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, aimed at equipping civil servants with the skills required to function effectively in the digital age.
He disclosed that the world had moved into a digital era where technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) were increasingly shaping the way organizations, including government, conducted their businesses.
He explained that the concepts of e-government and e-governance involved the use of technology in conducting government business, stressing that civil servants must acquire the necessary knowledge to adapt to the changing work environment.
Nkenchor who noted that although many younger officers were already conversant with digital devices and applications, stressed the need for senior officers to also improve their digital skills and understand how technology could be applied to their official responsibilities.
The Permanent Secretary said that the digitalizationtraining was not restricted to the Office of the Deputy Governor, but was being implemented across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State.
While urging the participants to pay close attention to the lectures, Dr. Nkenchor called on them to remain attentive and actively participate throughout the event.
He expressed optimism that the knowledge gained from the training would enhance the officers’ ability to utilize digital technologies effectively and contribute to improved service delivery in the Delta State Public Service.
