The Delta State Commissioner for Works Rural Roads and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, has pledged the support of the Ministry of Information to the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in promoting public awareness, strengthening police-community relations and enhancing public confidence in security institutions across the state.
Aniagwu gave the assurance today when the leadership of the Delta State Command of the PCRC, led by its Chairman, Comrade Oliver Eyefia, paid him a courtesy visit at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Asaba.
The Commissioner described the PCRC as a vital link between the Police and the public, noting that its activities were essential to fostering mutual understanding, trust, cooperation and peaceful coexistence between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
He emphasized the importance of effective communication and sustained public engagement in promoting peace and security, adding that the Ministry would explore opportunities to give greater visibility to the committee’s activities through state-owned media platforms.
Aniagwu also encouraged stronger collaboration between the Ministry and the PCRC, particularly in reaching communities across Delta State with information that would promote security awareness, civic responsibility and peaceful coexistence.
He commended the committee for its patriotic contributions to society, particularly its efforts to promote peace and strengthen relationships between the Police and residents in various communities.
The Commissioner further assured the delegation of his willingness to support initiatives that would deepen public participation in security matters and improve cooperation between security agencies and the people.
Earlier, the PCRC Chairman, Comrade Oliver Eyefia, said the visit was aimed at strengthening the committee’s relationship with the Ministry of Information and exploring ways to improve public awareness of its activities.
Eyefia noted that the Ministry occupied a strategic position in the state’s information and communication architecture, making its support crucial to expanding the committee’s reach and enhancing public understanding of its mandate.
He stressed that increased publicity would enable the PCRC to engage more effectively with communities, promote public cooperation with the Police and strengthen the partnership between law enforcement agencies and the people.
Among the requests presented by the chairman were increased visibility for the committee through the Ministry’s communication channels, financial assistance from the government to support its volunteer activities, and a more structured partnership to advance its objectives.
Eyefia explained that the committee’s activities were directed at strengthening community participation in security matters, promoting peace and supporting sustainable development in line with the state’s MORE Agenda and the broader Renewed Hope vision.
On preparations for the 2027 general elections, the PCRC chairman reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to discharging its responsibilities towards ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation among security agencies, community leaders and residents in maintaining peace and preventing violence before, during and after the elections.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both parties to explore practical ways of strengthening their existing relationship and establishing a more effective communication framework through which the PCRC could reach a wider audience across Delta State.
A major highlight of the visit was the nomination of Commissioner Aniagwu as Patron of the Delta State Police Community Relations Committee, in recognition of the importance of the Ministry’s support in advancing the committee’s objectives.
The visit ended with a renewed commitment by both parties to sustained collaboration in promoting public awareness, community participation, peaceful coexistence and stronger relations between the Police and the people of Delta State.
