A Non-governmental organization NGO Bastion initiative has called on women to participate in politics.
The call was made in Warri today by the project manager Mrs Marvelous Tega during the graduation ceremony for Thirty Four 34 women who participated in the Women in politics leadership Academy (WLPLA).
Addressing guests and the graduating participants, the Project Manager of Bastion Initiative, Mrs Marvelous Tega, said the organization was proud to support women aspiring to take up leadership positions in politics.
Mrs Tega explained that the programme attracted 50 registered participants, out of whom 34 successfully completed the training. She added that the graduating women were divided into groups to undertake projects as part of the programme.
The project manager encouraged more women to venture into politics, stressing that women can make meaningful contributions when given leadership opportunities.
Speaking at the event, the Founder of Bastion Initiative and APC candidate for Warri North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly1, Orode Udaughan, urged women to recognize their potential to make a difference in politics and public service.
She advised aspiring female politicians to cultivate good character and develop effective leadership and communication skills before venturing into politics, noting that political engagement is demanding and comes with its own challenges.
Udaughan stated that courage does not mean the absence of fear, but the willingness to stand up for what is right. She added that while competence enables people to perform their duties, character is essential to achieving lasting success.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Media, Lady Henrietta Enwereaku, called on women occupying political offices to support and mentor other women as they advance along the leadership ladder.
Some of the graduating participants expressed appreciation to Udaughan for establishing a platform to equip women with the knowledge and skills needed to participate in politics and leadership.
They also urged women in political and leadership positions to uphold their moral values while discharging their responsibilities.
The Women in Politics Leadership Academy, a project initiated by Orode Udaughan three years ago, is designed to educate and prepare women for leadership roles in society.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of certificates to the graduating participants and the inauguration of a women’s campaign team for OrodeUdaughan ahead of the forthcoming election for Warri North Constituency1, in the Delta State House of Assembly.
