
Non-Indegene appointees in Delta State government led by the Executive Assistant (EA) to Governor Sherrif Oborevwori on Non-Indigenes, Hon. (Bar.) Emeka Ebiliekwe on Tuesday, paid a courtesy visit to the Serki Hausawa/leader of Arewa Community in Asaba, Alhaji Ibrahim Babagero at his palace in Cable Area of Asaba.
In his speech, Hon. Ebiliekwe said that he and his team came to officially introduce themselves to the leaders of the Arewa Community. He said that the Eid-el-Fitri celebration was a good opportunity for visit.
According to him, his office is making arrangements for an interactive session between the leaders of non-indigene communities in the state and the state governor during which issues of mutual interest would be discussed.
“Non-indigenes have contributed a lot to the development of Delta State and we appreciate the governor for running an all-inclusive government by appointing ,many non-indigenes into his government,” he said.
In bis response, the Serki Hausawa/leader of the Arewa Community in Asaba, Alhaji Ibrahim Babagero, suggested that there should be a monthly meeting of leaders of non-indigene communities in Delta State for the purpose of cooperation and to engender peace and unity in the state. He commended the current state government for efforts it has taken so far to improve the lots of non-indigene communities in the state.
Alhaji Babagero, who is also the vice-chairman of South South Council of Arewa Community Leaders, revealed that his forefathers arrived Asaba in 1884 and since then they have been having good relationship and peaceful co-existence with their host community. He described the incumbent governor as a man of the people and expressed his appreciation to the governor for appointing members of the Arewa Community in the state as Senior Special Assistants (SSA) and Special Assistants (SA) in his government.
On the needs of the Arewa Community, the Serki Hausawa appealed for the rehabilitation of the roads in Cable Area where most of the Arewa Community in Asaba reside and also asked for government assistance in the education of their children, especially those whose have lost their fathers.
Amongst the delegation of the Executive Assistant to Governor Oborevwori were the SSA Non-Indigene, Jomoh Ibrahim, SA’s Non-Indigene Prince Henry Eze and Mayor Ikoroha.
With the Serki Hausawa to receive the guests were the Pioneer Chairman PDP Ward 11, Idris Kukah, Chairman Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Anwalu Tukur as Chairman and Arewa Youth Leader in Delta State who is also Special Assistant to Governor Oborevwori on Youth Mobilization, Yusuf Musa and Hausa/Fulani Community Leader, Mutari Usman.
