The newly elected executive members of the Unique Chibundu Age Grade Association, Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, have been urged to discharge their responsibility in line with the constitutional provisions of the age grade for the benefits of the association and Okpanam community in general.
A member of the election committee, Hon. Tony Odih gave the admonition in Okpanam while inaugurating the new executives after their election which was conducted during their 2024 annual get together as part of activities to celebrate the new yam festival.
Hon. Odih, who is the Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oshimili North, reminded the executives that the duration of their tenure was three years.
He charged them to leverage their elevation to impact more positively in the leadership of the association, adding that they should strive to carry everybody along in the scheme of things.
In an interview with newsmen, the newly inaugurated vice chairman of Unique Chibundu Age Grade association, Mr. Godwin Nzemeka described their election as a call to service, stressing that the leadership of the association would do everything it could to ensure that the association continued to uphold her tenets.
Nzemeka said that the age grade was made up of individuals from all walks of life working together as a team not just to promote and project the association but that of the Okpanam community.
While saying that love was one of the unique things binding them in age grade, Nzemeka assured that the inaugurated executives had the character to deliver effectively on their assignment.
He disclosed that they have their members in diaspora including in Germany, USA and United Kingdom among other parts of the globe, emphasizing that they usually conduct most of their meetings via zoom to enable those abroad to participate.
Also speaking, the secretary of Unique Chibundu age grade association, Comr. Emmanuel Chidobi, who is a vice principal (academics) in one of the public secondary schools in the state, explained that in Okpanam tradition, leadership by age and seniority ruled.
He promised to discharge his duties effectively and assured his members that as the engine room of the association, he would carry everybody along.
