Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, has called for collective action from stakeholders to curb the rising tide of social vices affecting young people in society.
Dr. Ashibogwu made this appeal when he received members of The Dukes Infant and Child Foundation (TDICF) during a courtesy visit to his office in Asaba.
Expressing concern over the growing trend of parents openly celebrating adolescents who acquire wealth through questionable means, the commissioner warned that such behaviors send the wrong message to the younger generation.
“These adolescents are supposed to be the future leaders of our society, but many are now resorting to unethical means in their quest for wealth,” he said.
He emphasized that true empowerment can only be achieved when individuals are emotionally stable and guided by the right values. To this end, he called on parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to collaborate in instilling proper discipline and moral values in children and youths.
Dr. Ashibogwu commended TDICF for their dedication to building a better society and pledged the ministry’s support for the foundation’s initiatives.
“As a government and ministry, we will collaborate and support your efforts,” he said. “The future of our state lies in the hands of the younger generation. We cannot afford to ignore their development. Even with the revised academic curriculum, we must ensure that emotional intelligence and the right attitudes are nurtured in our children.”
Earlier in her remarks, the founder of the foundation, Mrs. Augusta Anyanwu-Egbom, officially invited the commissioner to a one-day Seminar and Awareness Campaign organized by the foundation. The event is scheduled for September 15, 2025, at The South End Event Centre, Asaba.
According to Mrs. Anyanwu-Egbom, the seminar aims to empower participants with essential knowledge in leadership, emotional intelligence, and self-confidence.
Also present at the meeting were the Functioning Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Patricia Iniovosa-Okakwu; Director of Examinations and Standards, Mrs. Clementina Ojumah; and Director of Schools, Mrs. Winifred Ighavwota, among others.
