The Oshimili North Local Government Area (ONLGA) on Wednesday joined other Deltans in marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day anniversary at the Cenotaph, Asaba.
The colourful celebration featured a ceremonial parade, cultural displays, and march-pasts by security agencies, paramilitary bodies, schools, and voluntary organizations.
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, inspected the guard of honour and supervised the parade. Contingents included the Nigerian Police, Fire Service, Immigration Service, Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), and others.
Leading the Oshimili North delegation, Chairman Hon. Innocent Esewezie, along with political appointees, senior council staff, and management officers, joined representatives from the state’s 25 other local government areas.
In his goodwill message delivered through the Deputy Governor, Governor Oborevwori congratulated Nigerians on the anniversary and urged citizens to uphold unity, resilience, and shared responsibility in building the nation. He emphasized that Nigeria’s challenges could be overcome with collective effort and renewed commitment to the ideals of nationhood.
Speaking after the event, Hon. Esewezie described the celebration as a symbol of Nigeria’s enduring spirit. He called on leaders at all levels to remain dedicated to policies that uplift citizens and reaffirmed Oshimili North’s commitment to peace, development, and unity in Delta State.
