The Urhobo ethnic group of Delta State has been described as a unique and a blessed ethnic group in Nigeria, rich in human capital and natural resources.
The assertion was made by the Rector of the Delta state polytechnic, Otefe –Oghara, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri in Oghara headquarters of Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta state when he was honoured with an award of excellence on leadership by the youth wing of the Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) world–wide.
Biri who was overwhelmed by the award, dedicated the award to God and to the Delta state Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering support to the development/ massive growth experienced in the polytechnic.
While reiterating that Oborevwori has made Urhobo proud with the laudable land–mark projects he has done through his MORE Agenda policy across the state, the Rector urged all Deltans and the youths to always stand by, and support the Governor for more growth and development in the state.
He also appreciated the former Delta state Governor, Chief James Ibori who has brought about the existence of the Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, describing the former Governor as an administrative Icon.
While appreciating the youth wing of the UPU for the award, Biri urged all the Urhobo people to stay united and live together, reiterating that if there would be a reincarnation, he would want to come back as an Urhobo man.
The President of the UPU youth wing world–wide, Activist Blessed Ughere noted that it has not been seen since the existence of the UPU youth wing from 1931 till date that the group moved from its position to go to any individual to give an award, stressing that going to give the Rector an award in his institution was a privilege and first of its kind.
He reiterated that the award was based on merit and Biri has been proven beyond all doubts that he merited the award for all the numerous developments seen in the institution since he assumed office as the Rector of the institution and his numerous supports to the Urhobo land.
