November 20th 2022- The Day 22nd World Cup Kicked Off
Today, the 22nd World Cup kicked off in Qatar with Ecuador convincingly winning the host country, Qatar with two goals.
All over the world avid football fans were all looking forward to the thrills of all the action.
Many would have loved to be there in Qatar for the tournament but maybe they can now plan and look forward to attending the next one in US/Canada/Mexico in 2026.
As a Nigerian, I’m not too happy my country (Nigeria) didn’t qualify. Hence, I will be adopting Argentina ( because of Lionel Messi, one of the greatest players of all time) and they are my favourites to win it. Don’t blame me. I love Messi’s personality, especially the recent ad he did with Ronaldo, another great player.
For me, that’s the picture of the decade.
Two names in the list of sponsors for this World Cup; BYJU’S and Crypto.com, two companies that intrique me.
BYJU’s is the world’s most valuable EdTech company, valued at $23 billion. With the company reporting losses for the year end March 2021 amid its expansion efforts, sponsoring the World Cup may not have come at a much better time.
The potential reach of the World Cup is huge. An estimated 5 billion people are expected to watch the tournament.
It would be great to see how this sponsorship impacts their overall business, both in the short and long term.
Another company that I’m excited about their sponsorship is crypto.com.
As a web3 and crypto minimalist, this is an interesting one for me.
The crypto space has faced some of its most damning challenges in the last 12 months. From LUNA to Celsius to the FTX debacle.
And the end may not be in sight. Just yet.
However, the World Cup provides a valuable opportunity to improve crypto awareness, acceptance, and adoption across the globe. And this will benefit the entire crypto ecosystem.
I’m definitely looking forward to an amazing tournament.
May the best team win.
