Information from Kenya’s Presidency claims that the names of the 51 Principal Secretaries who were vetted and accepted by the National Assembly on Thursday have been officially appointed and Gazetted by President William Ruto.
The PSs’ gazettement clears the way for their inauguration, which is slated for Friday at State House Nairobi.
The National Assembly approved the vetting reports given by the several departmental committees that conducted the vetting procedure for the 51 nominees on Thursday.
The Kenya Kwanza majority, led by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, defended the action by stating that the government needed their services in their respective ministries, despite the Minority side’s criticism of hurried screening and confirmation of the Principal Secretaries.
“We have done this really rapidly since every committee took time to question the nominees,” said Ichung’wa.
The Law Society of Kenya had submitted a petition, which had caused a delay in the screening of the PSs, but the court had dismissed it since it had been filed too soon.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) filed a court petition to prevent the National Assembly from proceeding with the vetting, claiming that the list lacked gender, tribal, and regional balance.
However, on Tuesday, Justice Nduma Nderi dismissed lawsuits preventing the vetting of the 51 PSs, claiming that they were filed prematurely.
