Human rights activist and former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to name Governors that steal Local Government funds in the country.
The vocal Government critic took to his verified Twitter handle to tweet, “The President should have the courage to specifically mention those Governors “pocketing LG allocations” rather than timid generalisation.”
Buhari, speaking with the Senior Executive Course No. 44-2022 graduands of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, said, “Governors and Local Government officials who pocket public monies are to blame for the stalled development at the Local Governments.”
“If the monies from the Federal Government to state governments is N100 million, N50 million will be sent to the chairman, with a letter that he will sign that he received N100 million.”
“The Governor will pocket the balance and share it with whoever he wanted to and then the Chairman of the Local Government will see how much he must pay in salaries.”
“To hell goes development. Monies for the salaries will be given and the balance he will put in his pocket. This is what is happening,” the President added.
Meanwhile, Governors Samuel Ortom of Benue State, David Umahi of Ebonyi State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Solomon Lalong of Plateau State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, and Nyesom Wike of Rivers State have posited that they are clean of the President’s accusations.
