The Republic of Algeria denounced the M23 terrorists’ slaughter, which it claims resulted in 272 casualties, including 17 children, in the villages of Kishishe and Bambo in the Rutshuru area in North Kivu,
In a statement released on December 7 by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The statement states, “Algeria firmly condemns the heinous slaughter that has just been carried out by armed groups in the Kishishe district, North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, whose terrible death toll strongly confronts the obligation to protect civilians in conflict zones.”
Along with guaranteeing the citizenry and the Congolese government of its sympathy, Algeria also expressed its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims and its hopes for the injured to recover quickly.
In light of this, Algeria emphasized the “im urgent need” of respecting international humanitarian law in all situations and calls on the various parties to the conflict to cool down, to hold back, and to continue a dialogue in order to find a peaceful solution to the crisiss currently raging in this region of the DRC.
Toufik Djouama, Algeria’s ambassador to the DRC, reiterated Algiers’ support for initiatives to restore a peace and stability over the whole of Congolese soil in general and in its eastern part in particular on the occasion of the commemoration of his country’s national holiday on November 1.
