Bandits have killed the Village Head of Mulo Community in Mashegu local government Council of Niger state, Malam Usman Garba.
He was abducted on Thursday at Mulo community along with three other persons.
The gunmen reportedly murdered him in gruesome circumstances and left his body behind.
The State Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, Emmanuel Umar informed reporters of the incident in Mina while giving an update on the security situation in Niger.
Mr Umar said though the security situation across the state has improved, “there are still threats and pockets of attacks” in some communities, especially in the three local government councils of Mashegu, Mariga and Kontagora.
According to Mr Umar, Mashegu has witnessed a series of attacks over the past two weeks. The murder of the Village Head of Malo community was, he stressed, the height of the recent attacks.
He, however, told his audience that the state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has directed all security agencies to “double their efforts” to enable the residents “enjoy a hitch free Christmas and New Year celebrations”.
