European flights during the summer holiday period could be affected by a strike by air traffic controllers.
Eurocontrol, which oversees aircraft across Europe, has indicated that one of its unions may engage in industrial action but said it was “making every effort to keep negotiations open and to find a constructive way forward”.
BBC reports that industry group Airlines UK have urged Eurocontrol “to reach agreement as soon as possible”.
Union Syndicale Bruxelles, one of its trade unions, has “announced a period of six months during which industrial action may take place.”
It warned that the move might have an impact on its Network Manager Operations Centre, which manages over 10 million flights annually.
Before the pandemic, it managed more than 37,000 flights on a daily average, according to Eurocontrol, which claimed that the facility was essential in bettering, simplifying, and managing air traffic.
